Tom
Nowicki, Hip Dog owner, became interested in canine hydrotherapy in 2000,
when a friend came to him about her dog, Cozmo, who had lost his
front leg in a car accident. Diet, acupuncture, and massage brought
the dog some real relief. But even after a long walk, he still
required days of enforced rest afterwards. One day, by chance,
Tom saw an article about hydrotherapy. He knew race horses
had benefited from hydrotherapy for years, so why not dogs?
Encouraged by this prospect, Tom, and Hip Dog assistant Kristina,
trained with Susan Marino, R.N., who created Angel's
Gate Hospice and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Salonga, New York.
Ms. Marino pioneered the use of hydrotherapy for companion animals in
the late 1990's. Seeing the fantastic results from this therapy,
Tom decided to make this available for other dogs in need. Tom and
Kristina sought additional training with Equitherapies,
Inc. in Ft. Myers, Florida., and are Red Cross certified in Animal
CPR and First Aid. They are also members of the International
Association of Animal Massage & Bodywork.
